Liverpool will be looking ahead to a pivotal game against Chelsea in the Premier League next weekend, with the international break nearing its end.

The Reds have enjoyed a superb start to the season under new boss Arne Slot, topping the table so far after six wins from seven games to open the campaign and they'll be itching to return and keep up their momentum.

Liverpool have been lucky to see a handful of players return early from international duty already - such as Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Curtis Jones - with Trent Alexander-Arnold set to head back in top form after netting a free-kick against Finland.

Mirror Football has rounded up some of the top stories and developments surrounding Liverpool ahead of their clash against the Blues next week.

Keane calls out Trent

Trent Alexander-Arnold might have enjoyed a memorable night for England on the left hand side against Finland, but pundit Roy Keane was far from impressed.

The Liverpool full-back continued to show his impressive versatility as he put in a solid display at left-back for the Three Lions during their 3-1 win in Helsinki - and even smashed in a superb free kick too - but Keane still took issue with the 26-year-old, saying his defending was not up to scratch.

“You give time to Trent, because his decision making and quality of passing is fantastic, but I can’t believe how bad he is defensively and against better teams he’ll be punished."

Keane also tore into Alexander-Arnold before the game as he criticised his under-par display in England's 2-1 loss to Greece on Thursday night.

He said: "If you saw him the other night defending, it looked like he'd never played right-back before!"

Nunez's rallying cry

Liverpool fans will be pleased to see forward Darwin Nunez showing some fight - after the 25-year-old urged his Uruguay team-mates to bounce back from a shock 1-0 defeat to Peru on Saturday.

It was a huge blow for Uruguay and their hopes of World Cup qualification following the defeat to a team who were bottom of the South American table, with the victory their first in 10 qualifying matches.

Nunez was described as being "very alone in attack" by newspaper El Pais and the former Benfica striker said his team needed a big improvement ahead of a must-win game against Ecuador on Wednesday.

"Work to improve, there is no other [way]," he posted in Spanish on Instagram, adding, "Go Uruguay always!"

Henderson's message ahead of Chelsea clash

Jordan Henderson will be regarded as a Liverpool legend following his exit in 2023 - with the former captain winning the Premier League and Champions League at Anfield.

The midfielder - now playing at Ajax - has shown he is still a huge fan of the club after replying to Trent Alexander-Arnold's post celebrating his brilliant free kick for England against Finland in their 3-1 win on Sunday night, with the full-back writing: "Top left. Top team. Top night."
