Man charged over mass shooting threat against 'filth' Donald Trump supporters

The US Department of Justice announced today suspect Issac Sissel, 25, from Ann Arbor, Michigan, was arrested after threatening Trump voters as America heads to the polls

A man has been charged after allegedly threatening to carry out a mass shooting against conservative voters in the result of a Donald Trump victory.

The US Department of Justice announced today suspect Issac Sissel, 25, from Ann Arbor, Michigan, was arrested after threatening Trump voters. In a statement, from the US Attorney's Office said Sissell was charged today in a federal criminal complaint with sending a threatening communication.

Court records filed by the FBI National Threat Operations Center in West Virginia on November 2 said it had received reports of the threat. The threat said in part: "I shall carry out an attack against conservative christan, (sic) filth in the event trump wins the election. I have a stolen ar15 and a target I refuse to name so I can continue to get away with my plans. Without a specific victim or ability to find the place I hid the gun, there’s not a thing the FBI can do until I complete the attack.”

Sissell was slated to make an appearance in a federal court this afternoon local time. The FBI Detroit Office is carrying out an investigation into the case. The US Justice Department statement added: "This case is part of the Justice Department’s Election Threats Task Force.

"Created by Attorney General Merrick B. Garland and launched by Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco in June 2021, the task force has led the department’s efforts to address threats of violence against election workers, and to ensure that all election workers — whether elected, appointed, or volunteer — are able to do their jobs free from threats and intimidation.

"The task force engages with the election community and state and local law enforcement to assess allegations and reports of threats against election workers, and has investigated and prosecuted these matters where appropriate, in partnership with FBI Field Offices and U.S. Attorneys’ Offices throughout the country. Three years after its formation, the task force is continuing this work and supporting the U.S. Attorneys’ Offices and FBI Field Offices nationwide as they carry on the critical work that the task force has begun."

Violence has been a huge concern in the US this election cycle with Trump being targeted in multiple assassination attempts. The former president narrowly escaped with his life intact when shots were fired at into a crowd in Butler, Pennsylvania, in July.

A member of the crowd was killed and the suspect, Thomas Matthew Crooks, was subsequently shot dead. A motive remains unclear and an investigation into the shooting is still ongoing. Today there were other instances of violence with bomb threats being made at polling stations across the US. It comes as millions of Americans vote for who they want to lead the country for the next four years.
