Major UK airport issues urgent warning to travellers ahead of huge change
A number of airlines are moving from Terminals 1 and 3 to the new-look Terminal 2 at the UK's third busiest airport in the coming weeks following a £1.3billion makeover
by Steven White, Liv Clarke · The MirrorManchester Airport has sounded the alarm for holidaymakers with a fresh warning as a host of airlines are set to switch from Terminals 1 and 3 to the revamped Terminal 2.
The airport is calling on passengers to update their lounge and parking bookings to avoid any hiccups during their travels. A total of 11 airlines have made the move, which started on October 27 and runs through to November 13. This comes amid a whopping £1.3billion makeover that's giving Terminal 2 a complete facelift. As part of the grand plan, Terminal 1 will be shut down, while Terminal 3 will see a reduction in airline operations. The goal is to establish the spruced-up Terminal 2 as "the heartbeat of the airport".
The first phase of the new Terminal 2 was unveiled in 2021, and the second phase is slated to open its doors next year. With the entire transformation expected to wrap up by 2025, the airport shared a list of airlines already transitioning over, which can be found at the bottom of this article. Passengers who've booked lounges or car parks are being prompted to make necessary changes. For car park updates, travellers can use this form here, and for lounge adjustments, they should use this form here, reports the Manchester Evening News.
Just last month, the airport announced that come next summer, Terminal 2 will boast 22 new retail, bar and restaurant outlets, including the airport's inaugural Wetherspoons, a Greggs bakery, and a Fever-Tree cocktail and champagne bar. The new terminal will house luxury retailers such as Pandora and Chanel, with the latter launching its first standalone airport makeup and skincare boutique. They'll be joined by high street giants like LEGO, WH Smith, and Boots. Additionally, a massive 472-seater food hall, dubbed the Great Northern Market, will provide a street-style dining experience featuring seven international street food kitchens, including a unit from Manchester's viral dessert brand, Gooey.
