by Matthew Cooper · The MirrorDavid Moyes could complete a dramatic return to Everton, with the club's prospective new owners considering a move for the Scotsman.
Moyes enjoyed a successful 11 year spell in charge of Everton before leaving to replace Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United in 2013. However, he was quickly sacked by United and had short spells at Real Sociedad, Sunderland and West Ham before finding success when he was reappointed Hammers boss in 2019.
Moyes notably won the Europa Conference League during his four-and-a-half years at the club, before leaving West Ham when his contract expired at the end of last season. And the Sun are now reporting that American businessman Dan Friedkin is keen to bring Moyes back to Goodison Park if his deal to buy the club goes through.
Friedkin, who already owns Serie A club Roma, agreed a deal to buy Everton from Farhad Moshiri back in September but the sale has not yet been completed. The report states that the hold-up is down to Moshiri, but the signs are 'very positive' that the takeover could be finalised in the next few weeks.
Current manager Sean Dyche is keen to continue and keep Everton up, but they have won just two games out of 12 so far and the Friedkin regime are planning ahead in case results get even worse.
The report states that Everton want a 'short-term fix with an experienced replacement' if Dyche is sacked and Moyes fits the bill. It is also claimed that the 61-year-old would be keen on rejoining Everton and is 'convinced about the new owners, their ideas and the budget'.
Dyche was recently asked about the takeover ahead of Everton's 0-0 draw with Brentford on Saturday and admitted he was unsure where things stood. "There's no news so we're working to the current situation at the club, which is obviously being very, very sensible financially," he said.
"If the Friedkin Group do get their hands on the club and get it done in its totality then things might change but at the minute we're working with the guidelines that were there before. It's hard to bring positivity on a constant basis.
"The clouds have been hovering around the club for so long now that we kind of get a respite and people kind of deem it something different. But in house, the players have been very positive.
"You've just got to keep going and try to change that story. The feeling in the camp has been good - the outside feel shifts constantly - and all we can do is work hard to get the right results to keep it going."
