'I ruined Rio Ferdinand after spotting photo in background of his video interview'
Football fans have become accustomed to Micah Richards' sense of humour and booming laugh as the pundit enjoyed previously poking fun at Rio Ferdinand
by Fasika Zelealem · The MirrorMicah Richards was in fine form when suggesting Rio Ferdinand intentionally showed off his toned muscles in the form of a photo.
The ex-Manchester City star has non-apologetically been himself since becoming a regular on TV, with his sense of humour and boisterous personality making him a fan favourite among football fans. Not afraid to have a laugh at his expense – or others – that's something the Manchester United icon Ferdinand soon found out after posting a video interview of himself on social media back in 2022.
Richards spotted a portrait photo of Ferdinand in the background of his screen that featured the ex-England captain in a topless pose flexing his impressive muscles.
Suggesting that the 45-year-old purposely positioned the photo in shot, Richards gave his theory when responding to the post by writing: "Accidentally on purpose, ain't fooling me." The pundit was one of many to make the observation, with a portion of Ferdinand's 6.5million Instagram followers poking fun at the former centre-back.
Birmingham-born Richards has a penchant for aiming playful jibes at his fellow pundits, as he did with Roy Keane when the Irishman reactivated his Instagram account earlier this year.
"I can confirm it's the real @officialkeane16," Richards wrote in February. "He was told nobody will agree to make our road trip series unless he's on @instagram so here he is! You can also expect behind the scenes footage of my kit man duties when he gets a job again. #roykeane #skysports".
While they appear on different platforms, with Richards a regular on Sky and BBC and Ferdinand a key member of the TNT Sports team, the pair both had the same opinion when it came to which position Ruben Amorim must improve first upon his arrival in Manchester.
The United icon believes Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres is the obvious choice for Amorim to target. He told TNT Sports: "Managers when they leave clubs, there’s always one of two players, you know, I’ve got to take that.
"Who is that guy going to be, if he’s going to take someone from Sporting Lisbon? After the way [Gyokeres] was playing in the last few weeks, 11 [goals] in five games, is he going to be the number one target for the new manager of Man United?"
During an episode of The Rest is Football podcast, Alan Shearer claimed that United need a striker "massively" which Richards agreed with.
