Cristiano Ronaldo tipped for shock Wrexham transfer - 'I've spoken to many team-mates'

Former Arsenal and Chelsea star William Gallas has refused to rule out Cristiano Ronaldo making a Hollywood move to Wrexham.

Ronaldo, 39, is undoubtedly in the final stretch of his career but continues to add to his legacy. On Saturday, he notched his 133rd goal for Portugal in the team's 3-1 win over Poland.

The forward recently celebrated his 900th career goal and has scored 72 in 79 games since beginning the wave of top names moving to Saudi Arabia in December 2022. Ronaldo reportedly earns around £175million-per-year at Al-Nassr, and the five-time Ballon d’Or winner has previously spoken about staying with the club for the rest of his career.

However, Ronaldo’s contract ends next summer, and he may be looking for a new challenge. While the Portuguese icon signing for a team currently battling at the top of League One feels completely outlandish, two-time Premier League winner Gallas has insisted that the forward could consider joining Wrexham.

"Cristiano Ronaldo to Wrexham? Anything is possible in football in the modern game.” Gallas told Prime Casino. "It wouldn’t surprise me because money talks and we’ve seen that nothing is impossible these days.

“You see young players going to Saudi Arabia when they would have never left Europe in the past. Footballers and football clubs are now obsessed with their brands too and their sponsors... you can make a lot of money and not just from your wages at your club.

“Now everything is about social media and having millions of followers, and both Wrexham and Ronaldo have huge profiles so why not. I have spoken to my former team-mates about social media and everything that goes on now and it feels like a different world. So many things are now possible.

“Ronaldo is more than just a footballer, he’s a product and he’s also still scoring so many goals on the pitch. There will be so many clubs still happy to have him.”

Wrexham have been on a fairytale journey since the club was bought by acting stars Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds, gaining a worldwide fanbase through the Welcome to Wrexham docuseries. The historic Welsh club ended their 15-year stay in the National League last year, earning back-to-back promotions to League One, and could return to the second tier for the first time since 1982.

While the Dragons’ celebrity owners have signed several former Premier League stars during their time in charge—Ben Foster, James McLean, Steven Fletcher—Ronaldo would smash their current wage structure. Wrexham’s highest-paid player, George Evans, reportedly earns around £7,000 per week, a fraction of the £3.4million weekly wage that Ronaldo receives at Al-Nassr.

However, Wrexham did attempt to sign one of Ronaldo’s former Real Madrid team-mates. Upon the club’s return to the EFL in 2023, Wrexham tried to coax Gareth Bale out of retirement, and co-owner Mclhenney has admitted that the club remains interested in the Welsh football icon.

"Gareth Bale is still technically available. I don't know, I made the plea last year and I'm just going to tell Gareth that the offer's still on the table," McElhenney said in June. "We'll let you off for golf whenever you need to get off. As long as you come to training once or twice a week we can figure out how to get you 10 minutes on the pitch. And the golf courses -- Wales is amongst the most beautiful countries in the world."
