David Ginola's heartbroken daughter says he'll never meet her baby due to family rift

Joy Pinquier, the daughter of ex-footballer David Ginola, has blasted him for showing no interest in his unborn granddaughter following a difficult relationship

David Ginola’s daughter claims he has no interest in meeting his granddaughter and is distant and cold towards her.

Despite being married, Ginola had a four-month fling with Joelle Pinquier when he was playing for French side Brest in 1991. The couple conceived Joy Pinquier, but Ginola refused to have anything to do with her for the first 28 years of her life.

He was only declared the father of Joy by a French court after refusing to take paternity tests on three occasions. The 57-year-old former Tottenham and Newcastle winger was ordered to pay €450 (£345) a month in child support until Joy turned 18 and eventually acknowledged her existence after connecting on social media, but their strained relationship continues.

Joy, 32, got in touch with Ginola in April to inform him that she was pregnant and she says he wished her congratulations. But he has ghosted her since Joy sent a picture of an ultrasound scan in August and, speaking to The Daily Mail, she alleges he is “acting like a casual acquaintance, rather than my dad”.

“I'm so happy to become a mum, but I doubt my dad will get to know my daughter,” she said. “He stopped replying to my messages. The way he is treating us is not right.”

Joy lives with her partner Yohann, a 32-year-old aviation worker, and feels hurt by the latest snub from her father. She added: “He doesn't seem to have any interest in either of us. I would like for them to build a bond, but I can't force him to do the right thing.

“I can only be the best mum I can and I am glad my daughter will have a great dad in Yohann. He will be the father figure for our girl that I never had.” Mirror Football has contacted Ginola to request comment.

He was married and expecting his first child at the time of his fling with Joy’s mum Joelle, who was working as a secretary in Paris and was under the impression Ginola was single. They met in a Parisian nightclub when he was married to his model ex-wife Coraline, with whom he has two children, Andrea and Carla.

The ex-France international split from Coraline in 2016 and is now in a relationship with Maeva Denat, with whom he has a daughter, Ever. In an interview with The Sun last year, Joy explained that she met her father for the first time for an hour in 2021 in Marseille after Ginola’s appearance on I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here.

“I am not interested in his money and I never wanted to attack him publicly. I always felt it my responsibility to defend his reputation,” she claimed. “But it’s got to a point where I feel a terrible anger and resentment towards my dad. More than anything, I want to finally look him in the eye and ask why he treated me like he did.”
