Arsenal news: Mikel Arteta suffers fresh injury blow as Martin Odegaard delivers telling update

Arsenal have started the new Premier League season strongly and are in a fine position heading into the international break but Mikel Arteta also has some major injury concerns

by · The Mirror

Arsenal are heading into the international break in a fine position after putting Southampton to the sword.

The Gunners found themselves behind early in the second half but fought back to secure a 3-1 win courtesy of goals from Kai Havertz, Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka.

Mikel Arteta's side head into the break third in the Premier League but level on points with Manchester City and just one behind leaders Liverpool after maintaining their impressive unbeaten start to the campaign.

Arsenal face a trip to Bournemouth after the break but after losing Martin Odegaard to injury during the last international break, all eyes will be on the club's international stars in the coming days. Here, Mirror Football rounds up all the latest Arsenal news...

Odegaard's injury update

Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard says he is making good progress in his recovery from an ankle injury he sustained last month.

The midfield maestro hurt himself while on international duty and Norway head coach, Stale Solbakken, recently suggested that Odegaard was "a long way" from making a comeback.

Mikel Arteta has also refused to put a timescale on Odegaard's recovery - but the man himself has delivered an encouraging update, telling fans he is "getting better and better by the day".

Kai Havertz has been ruled out of Germany's upcoming international fixtures due to a knee injury, it has been announced.

The in-form attacker was on the scoresheet in Saturday's win over Southampton and already has four league goals to his name so far this term.

However, Germany have confirmed that he will not feature in their games against Bosnia and Herzegovina and Holland due to the problem, which will be assessed by Arsenal in the coming days.

Dublin lauds Arsenal edge

Dion Dublin reckons Arsenal have finally found the "horrible side" that they've been lacking in recent years.

The Gunners have managed to re-establish themselves as one of the Premier League's top teams under Mikel Arteta, though the Spaniard and his team have been pipped to the title in successive years by Manchester City.

Arsenal have caused a stir in recent weeks with their use of the 'dark arts' - and Dublin is seeing something that's been lacking. He told BBC's Final Score: “Arsenal have got something new which I haven't seen in many years. This horrible side, the grit and determination – they're all happy to do it and they'll muck in. They have the heart this time and they are hurting from the last couple of years.”
