Prince William let's slip Prince George wants 'normal' job - and it's adorable

Prince William revealed that Prince George had a surprising dream job when he was younger - and it seems little Prince Louis has also already picked out his own career path

Prince George might be destined to be King, but as a little boy he had an entirely different dream job.

Prince William spoke about his son's career aspirations back in 2018, when George was only four years old. The proud dad was speaking at a reception at Kensington Palace honouring Scotland Yard. Police Commissioner Jayne Richardson later recalled her conversation with William, saying: "We're only based just down the road in Kensington and I said to him 'Perhaps Prince George and Princess Charlotte could join the police cadets'."

In response, William revealed: "[George] is obsessed, actually, by the police… cars, toys, everything." It wasn't the first time that William had shared George's love for the police force. At the end of 2017, he hand-delivered a letter to Santa Claus on behalf of his little son while on a walkabout in Helsinki, Finland. The young Prince had asked for just one gift on his list – a police car. "I've seen you and I had to give you this letter," William said at the time. "He hasn’t written down many requests, so I think one request is probably ok."

In a sweet twist, William also had dreams of being a policeman when he was a little boy. Princess Diana's biographer Andrew Morton revealed in his book: "William and Harry were aware of their destiny. On one occasion the boys were discussing their futures with Diana. When I grow up I want to be a policeman and look after you Mummy,' said William. Quick as a flash Harry replied, with a note of triumph in his voice, 'Oh no you can't, you've got to be king'."

Prince Louis, meanwhile, also has a dream job in mind - and it also links back to his father. The Wales family took part in a day of volunteering for The Big Help Out during the coronation weekend in 2023, with the little royal very enthusiastic about the painting. However, when a volunteer asked if he might want to be a painter when he grows up, Prince Louis replied, "No, a fighter pilot!"

His answer might not come as a huge surprise given how many qualified pilots there are in his family. Prince William famously worked as a search and rescue pilot after completing training with the RAF, whilst King Charles served in the RAF as well as the Royal Navy. Like many fellow royals Prince Louis, who is fourth in the royal line of succession, could indeed end up pursuing some kind of military career in the future, possibly with the RAF.

The BBC's former royal correspondent Jennie Bond certainly believes it's likely that William and Kate will encourage their youngest child to "explore life" outside the Royal Family. "I imagine they will encourage Louis to explore life outside the royal fold… it could be the military, but it could also be working in the charity world or whatever he finds appealing after his education is finished," she suggested to OK! magazine. "I'm sure they will encourage him to go to University, which they both enjoyed and where, of course, they found love. And from there they will want him to find a life that is meaningful to him as well as appropriate for the son of a future King."
