US election 2024: Elon Musk makes embarrassing U-turn after accusing Google of bias

Billionaire Elon Musk has come out in support of Donald Trump in the 2024 Presidential Election and has claimed he will have a key role in his administration should he win

Elon Musk has backtracked after he appeared to echo concern of alleged Google election bias after popular accounts on X/Twitter claimed the tech company was promoting voting for Democrat Kamala Harris.

The pro-Trump billionaire CEO of X/Twitter shared a post by the crypto currency account @cb_doge that shared a video of a search of where to vote in Texas that he said showed a bias toward Harris. The account posted: "Breaking: Google shows a 'where to vote' section with a map for Kamala Harris, but not for Donald Trump. Google is the biggest donor to the Democratic Party."

In response Musk asked: "Are others seeing this too?" But the search appeared to favour Harris as there is a populous region in Texas called Harris County. A Community Notes post was added to the original tweet that clarified that was the case. It added: "The search query works because Harris is a county in Texas. The following works: Clark, Clinton, Eden, Franklin, Floyd, Leon and Marcy."

"It does not work if there is no city/ county/ state with the same name: Kamala, Trump Waltz." Musk went on to share a "raised eyebrow" emoji to another post seemingly accusing Google of bias. Emma-Jo Morris, who has more than 100,000 followers on the platform, showed an image of Harris when searching for Election Day updates."

In response the Google run X/Twitter account @NewsFromGoogle said: "The 'where to vote' panel is triggering for some specific searches bc Harris is also the name of a county in TX. Happens for “Vance” too bc it’s also the name of a county. Fix is coming. Note very few people actually search for voting places this way."

Musk appeared to backtrack from his earlier posts, responding to the post, adding: "Thanks for the clarification." The 2020 election is expected to be one of the closest in modern American history with Trump having already repeated baseless claims that the election will somehow be rigged against him

His claims of voter fraud have been repeated by Musk who has made several appearances along Trump at rallies. Reports on Election Day also claim the billionaire will be with the former president at his home in Mar-a-Lago as the vote comes in. Today millions of Americans are voting in the Presidential Election that is expected to be one of the closest in modern American history.
