Missing Brit found dead on Turkey holiday as mystery surrounds tragic discovery

Ben Crook, 32, from Caerphilly, South Wales, disappeared in mysterious circumstances in the Turkish holiday resort of Antalya and now the Foreign Office has confirmed a body has been found

A body has been found in the search for a Brit who disappeared while on holiday in Turkey, but mystery remains over what happened to him.

Ben Crook, from the Abertridwr area of Caerphilly, was last seen in Antalya's Seven City Hotel resort on September 25, before his family launched a desperate plea for help finding him.

A relative of the 32-year-old then announced on Friday night via social media that a search team had found a body police believed to belong to the holidaymaker.

The tragic news was confirmed by the Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office yesterday. "We are supporting the family of a British man who has died in Turkey and we are in contact with the local authorities," it stated.

Ben's family had launched a desperate plea to help locate him, saying he had last been sighted in Kaleici in central Antalya. The missing man is believed to have been wearing black shorts, Nike trainers and a black Versace shirt. It is understood Gwent Police were working with Turkish police in a bid to locate Mr Crook, reported WalesOnline.

And now many people have taken to social media to express their sadness and offer their condolences. "I've just read the very sad news. My heart goes put to his family rest in Peace Ben," wrote one person on Facebook, and another said: "Rest in peace.. This is heartbreaking."

It comes after British climber Fay Manners, 37, and American Michelle Dvorak, 31, vanished while climbing the Chaukhamba mountain in northern India. The pair disappeared after they made an SOS alert at around 20,350 ft on Thursday (October 3).

Fay had sent a frantic message to base camp saying their equipment had fallen down a steep gorge. Searches for Fay had to be halted on Friday due to poor weather conditions and the high altitude that helicopters couldn't reach, a source revealed.

The head of the rescue operation said: "There are so many agencies working here. They are all working in coordination with each other. The Indian Army, Indian Air Force, the District Administration, State Administration, along with my team, the State Disaster Response Force. We hope to evacuate these two ladies as soon as possible."
