Pep Guardiola reveals why Man City's current nightmare was always bound to happen
Pep Guardiola is suffering the worst run of his coaching career, with Manchester City having lost five straight games and Saturday's home demolition by Tottenham Hotspur a new low for the champions under the Catalan
by David Anderson · The MirrorPep Guardiola claims he always knew Manchester City’s successful run would not go on forever and that their problems have mushroomed since the start of the season.
Guardiola knew City’s form had to dip after amassing 18 trophies in his eight years at the Etihad and admits “little things” have got worse in the wake of their fifth successive loss to Tottenham. Injuries, such as to Rodri, have derailed City and they look tired with too many players struggling for form.
“It’s not like we’ve been like this for years, but I said before that sooner or later it should have happened,” said the City boss. “I know we won and won again, but sooner or later you have this situation for many reasons, little reasons why.
“It’s not ‘this is the reason why’, it’s little things going wrong from the beginning of the season that are getting worse. Now we have to face it. You cannot say anything, the situation is where you have to keep going my friends, keep going. We’ve done it in the past. Not as bad as now in terms of results, but we have done it and faced the situation and moved forward.”
Guardiola hinted City may have to strengthen in the January transfer window and says it is his job to find solutions.
“We don’t expect to lose important games many times, but it has happened and we have to find a way,” he said.
“When we started to lose, I said to people ‘I have to find a way’. I have to. It’s my duty and responsibility to find a way to be more consistent, get better and win games.”
