You don't have to spend a fortune on autumn beauty routines, as wellness experts have identified some "hack" items that cost less than £1 to give you that fall glow. As the seasons change, many people realise that their beauty routine needs to adapt to keep them looking fabulous, but this doesn't have to mean buying a whole new range of expensive products.

Beauty and wellness experts at Fresha have highlighted some top additions to incorporate into your current routine, using simple ingredients found in your fridge, to give you that autumn glow and protect your hair from the chilly temperatures.

Mayonnaise - £1.20 for 500ml at Asda

Mayonnaise is one such surprising substitute for hair masks, sprays, and gels to control frizz. The temperature shifts can take a toll on many hair types, but mayonnaise reportedly controls frizz while fighting dandruff and helping to lock in colour. To use, apply mayonnaise to damp hair, starting at the scalp and smoothing down to the ends, and rinse after 20 minutes for the best results.

Avocados - £0.89 in Sainsbury’s and Tesco

Avocados are a popular ingredient for homemade face masks, offering a budget-friendly alternative to expensive spa treatments or high street face masks. Experts highlight the skin benefits of avocados due to their high fibre and vitamin content, particularly beneficial for sensitive and dry skin during colder months. They suggest enhancing your regular avocado mask with apricots for additional vitamins A and C, which can help tighten skin and balance skin tone.

Champagne and beer

While not the most economical tip, leftover party champagne or beer can be used to rejuvenate highlights or blonde tones in your hair. Combing champagne through damp hair can enhance its golden glow, while beer can give your hair a silky, soft texture, according to experts.

Green tea bags - £2.25 for 20 bags of Twinnings Pure Green Tea

Green tea can help combat under-eye bags worsened by cold weather and limited sunshine. Experts recommend soaking green tea bags in hot water, allowing them to cool, and then placing them under your eyes. The antioxidants in the tea work to soothe and revitalise your skin.

Coffee and cinnamon

Experts recommend a budget-friendly body scrub concoction for those dealing with acne, suggesting a blend of coffee and cinnamon to exfoliate, clear dead skin cells, and give the skin a vibrant look thanks to increased blood flow from caffeine. For individuals with sensitive skin, it is suggested to swap out the cinnamon for brown sugar to prevent any redness and to use this mixture only about once a week.

Follow up with a brisk rinse in hot water before splashing with cold water to close the pores. Sophie Vongkhamsao, In House Beauty and Content Specialist at Fresha, cautioned: "It’s important to remember that everyone’s skin and body are different. Before trying any new DIY hack using kitchen ingredients, we strongly recommend consulting with a professional or healthcare provider to ensure it’s safe and suitable for you."
