A chilling video has been shown in court of a 15 year old Mississippi girl, Carly Gregg, allegedly texting her best friend moments after shooting her mother three times in the face. The teenager is currently on trial for the murder of her mother and the attempted murder of her stepfather, Heath, at their home in March.

The footage appeared to show Gregg entering the kitchen wearing a Nirvana T-shirt and dark trousers, pacing up and down the hallway. She then disappears from view before returning with something hidden behind her back. After peering into the kitchen, she walks off again, and shortly afterwards, the sound of three gunshots can be heard.

Following the first gunshot, a woman's screams can be heard before everything goes quiet. Gregg then reappears, casually sitting down at the kitchen counter and begins to text, seemingly unfazed as her family's two dogs wander nearby, reports Mirror US.

The prosecution alleges that the phone in Gregg's hand is her mother's, which she used to send a text to her stepfather luring him home. The message read: "When will you be home honey," according to Law and Crime.

Police claim that while waiting for her stepfather, Gregg sent a text to a friend under the alias B. W, stating there was an "emergency" at her house. When the friend arrived, it's alleged that Gregg asked them if they had ever seen a dead body before, then showed them her mother's corpse.

Shortly after the friend left, police say Heath came home and was shot in the shoulder by Gregg. Police reports suggest that Heath managed to wrestle the gun from his stepdaughter, causing her to run away. Heath later testified that he saw what happened to his wife before he was shot.

"I knew that she had been shot, there was blood around, I'm not sure exactly where, on the right side of her face," he told the court. He also mentioned that Gregg was usually a "sweet little girl", but on the day of the shooting, she looked like she "had seen a demon."

Heath also recalled the moment when Gregg tried to kill him during his testimony. "When I opened the door to the kitchen, the gun went off in my face before the door was three or four inches wide open," he said.

"The gun flashed in my face. It went off two more times, but my hand was on the gun after the first shot, and I twisted it from Carly."

Prosecutors reportedly offered Gregg a 40-year plea deal, but she and her lawyers rejected it, opting instead for an insanity defense. On Wednesday, psychiatrist Dr. Andrew Clark testified that he believes Gregg "blacked out" for over 90 minutes on the day of the alleged crime.

Clark stated that Gregg had previously reported experiencing "auditory hallucinations" in the years leading up to the murder, but the voices had never instructed her to commit violence. According to Clark, Gregg had also started smoking marijuana several times a week and was afraid her mother would discover her habit.

Additionally, Gregg had been prescribed Lexapro and Zoloft for mood disorders. Gregg is currently facing charges of murder, attempted murder, and evidence tampering, and if convicted, she could receive a life sentence.
