Jurgen Klopp's enormous Red Bull salary emerges as contract clause comes to light

Jurgen Klopp is set to earn a packet in his new job at Red Bull, whose clubs are based from Leipzig and Salzburg to New York, despite being criticised by Liverpool fans for his decision

Jurgen Klopp is set to bank up to £10m a season in his new role as Red Bull's head of football, according to reports in Germany.

The former Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund boss was announced as the Red Bull group's new chief - overseeing all their clubs - earlier this week in a move slammed by fans of his former clubs.

But Klopp, who begins officially on January 1, is set to earn a bumper pay packet as the strategy kingpin for Red Bull's clubs including Leipzig, Salsburg and their Major League Soccer club in New York.

Sky Germany say that he will earn between £8.5m and £10m per year during the deal, which also includes a clause that will allow him to leave the gig to take over the Germany manager’s role should Julian Nagelsmann move elsewhere.

Fresh reports indicate that the clause may also apply to other roles that could take Klopp's fancy. But according to Paralympic champion Wojtek Czyz, the former Anfield hero’s long-time confidant, Klopp has little interest in taking over Germany right now.

“I can tell you one thing from this, what I think about Jurgen. Jurgen is not thinking now about the German national team. Jurgen will be 100 percent committed to be successful in this role he took on now,” Czyz told the Sports Agents podcast.

“In the future, you know, so many things can happen, and everything will be done and will be right at the right time. And so now there is no discussion about any future thoughts about the German national team.”

Klopp, meanwhile, has spoken of his delight about the new role despite the backlash from supporters who used to adore him. “After almost 25 years on the sideline, I could not be more excited to get involved in a project like this,” he said.

“The role may have changed but my passion for football and the people who make the game what it is has not. By joining Red Bull at a global level, I want to develop, improve and support the incredible football talent that we have at our disposal.

“There are many ways that we can do this front using the elite knowledge and experience that Red Bull possesses to learning from other sports and other industries. Together we can discover what is possible.

“I see my role primarily as a mentor for the coaches and management of the Red Bull clubs but ultimately, I am one part of an organisation that is unique, innovative and forward looking. As I said, this could not excite me more."
