Top agents warned by FA over ban after FIFA ruling affects 'hundreds'

A number of high-profile individuals have been left off an FA list of registered agents, with the governing body warning many have not met new FIFA requirements

Top agents have had their license suspended in a major crackdown - and been warned they could face a ban.

FIFA have revoked the licences of any intermediary who did not meet a September 30 deadline to pay a $300 dollar bond and do a “continued personal development” refresher course.

One leading agent told Mirror Sport that it has affected “hundreds” worldwide and could impact on both overseas and domestic deals.

It is part of their new licensing system and the Football Association have now written to agents warning that if they are found to be working while suspended they will face further punishment. The FA published a new list of registered agents on October 4 with several high-profile names absent.

The FA letter to agents - seen by Mirror Sport - said: “There are a number of FA Registered Football Agents who have not met the FIFA requirements and have now had their Licence suspended by FIFA.

“In accordance with the FA Football Agent Regulations, any FA Registered Football Agent who has had their Licence suspended by FIFA in these circumstances will have their registration with The FA immediately suspended and be removed from the list of FA Registered Football Agents.

“Please note that should an agent be found to have performed Football Agent Services whilst their licence is suspended, this information will be passed to FIFA and may affect your eligibility to re-obtain a licence in the future.”

The CPD course is believed to take around four hours to complete and some agents did not do it in time while others failed to pay the 300 dollar bond. Leading British agents have already challenged the new FIFA licensing system which now means they must pass an exam, pay a bond and be registered.

They took the case to court - and won a ruling - to challenge parts of the FIFA ruling on dual representation and a cap on earnings from deals. But they are still expected to be licensed by the FA - through FIFA - and so failure to meet the deadline could have implications.

This comes on top of a landmark ruling in favour of ex-Chelsea midfielder Lassana Diarra challenging FIFA’s transfer rules which have been deemed to break European Union laws. Agents are likely to be given until November 30 to comply with FIFA's regulations but if they are found operating before then they will face punishment.
