Liverpool news: Trent Alexander-Arnold transfer prediction as Jurgen Klopp claims silenced

Trent Alexander-Arnold is being tipped to leave Liverpool this summer by a former Red, while ex-manager Jurgen Klopp's links to the Germany job are being shut down

by · The Mirror

Arne Slot is flying high, his honeymoon period at Liverpool still very much alive.

But there are still big questions to be answered at Anfield with some big names nearing the end of their contracts. From New Year's Day Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mo Salah will both be able to speak to other clubs about a move next summer.

And neither appear close to agreeing new deals to remain on Merseyside beyond this campaign. Yet one former Red is convinced that Real Madrid are sniffing around, while another club legend has rankled Arsenal fans for his comments on Arsene Wenger.

Here are the big stories from in and around Liverpool as the international break reaches its halfway point.

Trent departure

Trent Alexander-Arnold will leave on a free in the summer, but Liverpool will hang on to Mohamed Salah and Virgil Van Dijk.

That is the prediction of former Liverpool midfielder Jason McAteer who feels Alexander-Arnold is destined to join Real Madrid, despite his love for the Reds. McAteer can’t understand how Liverpool allowed this situation to happen and all three Reds stars are on course to leave Anfield when their contacts expire in July.

McAteer, who played for Liverpool in the 1990s, thinks the club will agree new terms with Salah and van Dijk, but fears Alexander-Arnold will be lured to Madrid.

Klopp's pal says no

Jurgen Klopp is NOT angling for the Germany job despite speculation to the contrary, says his long-time friend, Wojtek Czyz.

The former Liverpool manager had been expected to take a sabbatical after making the difficult decision to quit his previous role earlier this year. However, it was confirmed this week that Klopp will become Red Bull's new head of soccer in January.

Klopp's decision has split opinion - particularly in Germany, where the 57-year-old is still lauded by fans of Borussia Dortmund following his highly successful stint at the club.

It has also emerged that Klopp's contract with Red Bull includes a clause which would allow him to leave if the German national team were to come calling. However, Czyz has quashed suggestions that Klopp already has his sights on said role.

Jealous Souness

Arsenal fans have accused Graeme Souness of being "jealous" of Arsene Wenger after he claimed the Frenchman got "very lucky" during his managerial career.

Wenger is widely regarded as one of the greatest managers in the world, having won three Premier League titles and seven FA Cups during his 22-years in charge of Arsenal. Most notably, Wenger 2004 Premier League winning side were dubbed 'The Invincibles' after they lifted the title without suffering a single defeat.

It is a remarkable feat that has yet to be match in the top flight of English football, but Souness is not a fan. When asked if Wenger was a "football man" on the Three Up Front podcast, Souness replied: "No, not particularly."
