A baby tyrannosaurus rex has been stolen from a popular East Yorkshire event with police now investigating the brick dinosaur's disappearance.

As part of a dinosaur trail at Sewerby Hall and Gardens the 2ft tall green T-rex was one of the major attractions along with 17 other brick builds of other prehistoric animals including a triceratops, a stegosaurus, and an iguanodon.

The Iconic Bricks exhibition, which began on August 23, proved to be so popular that it was extended for a week and ended on Monday - before moving on to another venue.

But the baby T-rex vanished sometime between Thursday afternoon and Friday morning from the venue's walled gardens. And handing out an olive branch a spokesperson for the venue has said that they are willing to not pursue further action if the dinosaur is returned safe and sound.

Police have though been alerted to the disappearance reported Hull Live. Marie Gascoigne, general manager of Sewerby Hall and Gardens, expressed dismay at the theft: "The exhibition has been very popular and someone obviously liked the baby t-rex a bit too much."

She issued a heartfelt plea for the return of the model, quipping, "We would really like the model to be returned so it can be returned to ICONIC BRICKS. It can't be extinct!"

The showcase was a key attraction in Sewerby Hall's Summer Of Fun events schedule, enlightening visitors with plaques detailing each dinosaur's Lego piece count and the hours invested in their creation with the most intricate ones demanding over 400 hours and a staggering 250,000 pieces. Anyone with information is urged to contact Humberside Police on 101, quoting the Missing Dino Police Crime Number 24000/126/990.

Of the exhibition Sewerby Hall states on its website: "‘Dinosaurs’ is the brand-new tour from Iconic Bricks, featuring 18 life-sized brick models meticulously designed to awe and inspire audiences of all ages. The touring show includes an impressive Triceratops, a colourful Stegosaurus, and a huge Iguanodon to name just a few.

"Visitors will get an insight into how the models are made and will be able to get up close to the incredible models. The Iconic Bricks team of experts have poured their creativity and skill into every detail, ensuring an unforgettable experience for all who encounter these magnificent creatures."
