Premier League make huge Jarred Gillett VAR decision after Arsenal William Saliba incident

by · football.london

The Premier League have confirmed that Jarred Gillett will be on VAR duty once again for an Arsenal fixture.

The Gunners are scheduled to face Newcastle United at St James Park in the Saturday lunchtime kick-off.

Mikel Arteta's side go into the fixture having not won any of their previous two Premier League fixtures which included a defeat to Bournemouth and a draw with Liverpool.

Arsenal are currently third in the top-flight standings and will be determined to close the gap on leaders Manchester City ahead of their clash against Bournemouth a couple of hours later.

It has been confirmed that Gillett will be the VAR official for Arsenal's clash against Newcastle. John Brooks will be the referee, while being assisted by Simon Bennett and Dan Robathan with Darren Bond on fourth official duty.

Gillett was on VAR for the Gunners' defeat to Bournemouth almost two weeks ago, a game which involved the controversial red card for William Saliba.

The Arsenal defender was initially shown a yellow card by referee Rob Jones for a tackle on Cherries striker Evanilson, before a VAR check by Gillett led to the onfield decision being changed to a red.

Saliba was given his marching orders and forced to serve a one-match ban, which caused him to miss the draw with Liverpool last weekend. The centre-back will return to the matchday squad for the trip to Newcastle, where the Gunners will hope he is joined by Gabriel Magalhaes.

Gillett was on VAR duty twice in the Premier League last weekend. He was the assistant to Matt Donohue for Aston Villa's 1-1 draw with Bournemouth before being the leading VAR official 24 hours later for Chelsea's 2-1 win over Newcastle.
