White, Timber, Odegaard - Arsenal injury news and return dates vs Southampton

Latest Arsenal injury news ahead of Southampton with new updates issued on Ben White, Jurrien Timber, Martin Odegaard and Takehiro Tomiyasu

Arsenal will be aiming for a fourth straight victory this afternoon as they welcome Southampton to Emirates Stadium for a Premier League clash. The Gunners have beaten Bolton, Leicester City and Paris Saint-Germain in the last few weeks on home soil after two successive draws.

Dropped points against Manchester City and Brighton see Arsenal behind Liverpool in the Premier League table with six games played. Considering their first few fixtures alongside the injury and suspension issues Mikel Arteta has had to contend with, Arsenal are in an excellent position.

Ben White and Martin Odegaard are the marquee absentees with Jurrien Timber as a major doubt for Saturday's clash after being subbed off in the 2-0 win against PSG. With the October international break on the horizon, Arteta will be hoping his injured stars can recover but some of those may even be fit enough to feature against the Saints.

With that said, football.london has taken a look at the latest Arsenal injury updates along with some potential return dates.

Martin Odegaard

Injury: Ankle

The influential Arsenal skipper has missed the last six games due to an ankle injury sustained while playing for Norway during the September international break.

His return date remains unclear with hope that he would be back after the next international break somewhat dwindling after Arteta's most recent update.

What Arteta has said: "Martin is very difficult. I expected still with the boot and a lot of things but he’s working so hard and he’s feeling good and he’s pushing it. So difficult to give a timeline."

Possible return date: Late October.

Jurrien Timber

Injury: Muscular

Timber started for the seventh time in a row on Tuesday night and was impressive against Bradley Barcola at right-back. However, he did not re-emerge out of the dressing room for the second half and was replaced by Jakub Kiwior.

He has since been left out of the Netherlands squad for the upcoming international break and is therefore a huge doubt to face Southampton.

What Arteta has said: "We had to modify training for a lot of players. It was the same today because of the load that they had. There will be a decision to make this afternoon whether to involve them, yes or no. They [White and Timber] are close."

Possible return date: Southampton - October 5.

Ben White

Injury : Groin.

After missing the win over Leicester, White was also nowhere to be seen against PSG. It's not yet clear if he'll be deemed fit enough for the visit of Southampton.

What Arteta has said: "We had to modify training for a lot of players. It was the same today because of the load that they had. There will be a decision to make this afternoon whether to involve them, yes or no. They [White and Timber] are close."

Possible return date: Bournemouth (A) - Saturday, October 19..

Oleksandr Zinchenko

Injury: Calf.

Sidelined due to an injury sustained during October's international break, which also kept him out of the North London Derby and subsequent matches. He has not returned to training yet.

What Arteta has said: " Alex probably after the international break if everything goes well. He’s progressing really well."

Possible return date: Bournemouth (A) - Saturday, October 19.

Takehiro Tomiyasu

Injury: Knee.

The Japan defender is out of action again after a previous season marred by injuries, with no appearances so far this campaign. He took part in training ahead of PSG but may well remain unavailable whilst he builds up fitness.

What Arteta has said: "Tomiyasu is close too. So it’s good news."

Possible return date: Bournemouth (A) - Saturday, October 19.

Kieran Tierney

Injury: Hamstring.

Initially expected to be leaving Arsenal, Kieran Tierney then endured a hamstring injury while playing at the Euro 2024 with Scotland. Despite these challenges, he was named in Arsenal's 25-man Premier League squad last month, but hasn't returned to training as yet.

What Arteta has said: "He needs to focus now on recovering in the best possible way. It's been a tough time for him, with the last injury. We have to try to support him and make sure he comes back fit."

Possible return date: Unknown.
