28 caught speeding so far during 'slow-down' operation

Twenty-eight motorists have been caught speeding in the first two hours of a garda operation urging drivers to slow down.

The operation, which is running from 7am today until 7am tomorrow, aims to remind motorists of the dangers of speeding and to increase overall compliance with speed limits.

Between 7am and 9am this morning, gardaí said GoSafe checked 15,029 vehicles across the country, with 28 drivers detected speeding.

One motorist was clocked doing 113km/h in an 80km/h zone on the R245, Cashelshanaghan, Letterkenny, Co Donegal.

Another driver was caught driving 124km/h in a 100km/h zone on the N22, Gortatlea, Tralee, Co Kerry.
