Bill that gives legal effect to Budget measures published

The Finance Bill, which is the piece of legislation which gives legal effect to the Budget, has been published this afternoon.

The release of the proposed law is sometimes an opportunity for a government to make changes to the budget.

However, the Coalition has not introduced any new measures following the announcement of last week's Budget.

In a statement, Minister for Finance Jack Chambers said the bill included Budget measures "intended to provide additional supports nationwide while also maintaining the long-term stability of the public finances".

He said: "I look forward to bringing this important legislative instrument through the Oireachtas over the coming weeks."

The bill contains the Budget's increased Rent Tax Credit, an extension to the Help to Buy scheme, the Vacant Homes Tax and the Residential Zoned Land Tax.

It also provides for provides for the Income tax changes and amendments arising from the Gambling Regulation Bill and measures relating to the Automatic Enrolment Retirement Savings Scheme.
