Sinn Féin leader Mary Lou McDonald has raised the funding crisis facing a special education school in Clondalkin, Dublin during Leaders' Questions in the Dáil.

Scoil Mochua is facing a funding shortfall of €125,000 and was featured on RTÉ's Prime Time last night.

The Dáil heard that parents are having to fundraise to cover these costs.

"These parents are angry and the staff and board are worried about the future of the school," Ms McDonald said.

Minister for Public Expenditure Paschal Donohoe said an extra €45 million has been allocated to fund schools experiencing rising energy costs.

He said the Department of Education will now meet representatives from the school and the Government recognises the funding demands facing this school.

"This Government, with the funding that is available to us, want to ensure these pupils get the care and support they need," he said.
