A man has been charged with the manslaughter of a 24-year-old man in Co Tyrone at the weekend.

He is due to appear before Dungannon Magistrates Court.

Kyle McDermott who was from Burt in Co Donegal, died following an altercation near his home in Ballymagorry, Co Tyrone, on Sunday night.

Earlier, Detective Inspector Hazel Miller said police were making a specific and direct appeal to the occupants of a blue-coloured car that was parked on the Victoria Road near the scene of the altercation in Ballymagorry.

Police believe that an occupant in the car captured mobile footage of what happened. Detective Inspector Miller is appealing to the driver and passengers of that car to contact them on 101 as soon as possible, as their support could greatly assist police enquiries.

Detective Inspector Miller said Kyle McDermott "was a young man in his prime when his life was cut short, leaving a family and friends heartbroken."

Burt GAA Club issued a statement saying the utterly devastating news came through the local area as Kyle McDermott's young life was cruelly ended far too soon.

They asked that club members and the local community support each other and the McDermott family during the very difficult days ahead.

Daniel Crossan SDLP MLA said in a post on social media that the local community is devastated following the news.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with this young man’s family and friends. My heart goes out to them as they deal with this earth-shattering news," he said.

Sinn Féin MP Órfhlaith Begley said her "heartfelt sympathies go out to this man’s family as they come to terms with such an unimaginable loss."

She also urged anyone with information which could assist the investigation to contact police.

The PSNI is also appealing to anyone who was in the Victoria Road area of Ballymagorry on Sunday night between 6pm and midnight to come forward with any information or footage that could help the investigation.
