The old Cardiff landmark that now looks like the set for a post-apocalyptic movie
The progress made on the building looks dramatic and eerie as only the skeleton of the former offices is now left visible - but there is still plenty of work to be done
by Taite Johnson · Wales OnlineThe destruction of the former tax offices in Cardiff is well underway and the building now looks like something out of a post-apocalyptic movie. Work began on the former HMRC building in June, 2023, with council's expectation of it taking a year to complete, however it is still not yet fully demolished after 16 months.
The Ty Glas road site was built in 1968. Plans were approved by the council in August, 2022, ordering it's destruction. Since 2020, the blocks have been empty as the government department moved to the city centre. For the latest Cardiff news, sign up to our newsletter here
The 16-storey HMRC Government Building and 11-storey Gleider House have both been partially demolished with the outside torn off to reveal the skeleton of the building. These pictures show what the site looks like today.
