Women share the amount of anxiety they have over period leaks - and it's huge

by · Wales Online

A recent survey involving 1,000 women who menstruate revealed that a staggering 81 per cent feel anxious about potential leaks during their menstruation. Additionally, 65 per cent feel discomfort from using pads.

Consequently, a whopping 86 per cent take precautions to avoid any 'period mishaps. ' These measures range from shunning light-coloured attire to planning frequent loo breaks for pad checks.

According to the findings, 64 per cent accept it as the norm to have to alter their daily routine when on their period to avert leaks and pad discomfort.

As overall strategies for these issues, one-third of those polled always carry an extra pair of underwear, and most wear dark clothes during their period as a preventative measure.

For those who wear pads discomfort can come from their pad bunching up or not remaining where it should. This means women have to frequently check or readjust their pad (44 per cent), or modify the way they walk and sit (25 per cent).

To tackle leaks, 25 per cent use multiple pads at once, and one-third steer clear of sitting on light coloured furniture.

This study was carried out by Always on the occasion of launching their FlexProtect range featuring SmartFoam technology.

As part of the campaign the brand is encouraging women to jump into a new era of period protection with their biggest period stunt – a giant bounce pad at Westfield London.

A brand representative commented: "We want women to have reliable protection that makes them feel as comfortable as possible whilst on their period."

They further stated: "By normalising the conversation, we hope to enable girls and women to feel confident in managing their periods with suitable solutions that offer the right protection."
