Video shows mum's house covered in spiders for Halloween
by Sophie Watson, Howard Lloyd · Wales OnlineA mum admits she scared herself by covering her entire home in 'thousands' of spiders - including one giant 25-foot critter on her driveway that is a big as a car. Sally Jacks spent two days handmaking a giant spider with glowing red eyes that sits on her driveway, while the rest of her home is smothered in spider's web for the spooky celebrations.
Creepy footage shows the exterior of her house covered in cobwebs and scuttling spiders and Sally admits they even 'freak' herself out. In another clip, the interior of her home and downstairs toilet has been covered in 'thousands' of creepy crawlies.
The 42-year-old said it took her eight hours to individually cut out the cobwebs from white material and drape them across her home before covering her lawn in spiders. The TV presenter says people are always outside her house taking photos and is expecting hundreds of trick-or-treaters on October 31st to queue up to see her decorations.
Sally, from Burnley in Lancashire, said: "I decided on spiders this year. I have no idea how many spiders there are in total. There are over 1,000 spiders inside my house all crawling up the walls.
"The giant spider outside is about 25-feet wide and it took us about two days to make. It's made out of MDF, timber, chicken wire, lights, fur, drain pikes and hessian and spray foam and black car paint.
"The cobwebs are actually white material called beef netting and my friend and I individually cut all the holes in it. I got up the ladder and hung them all up. It took a full day of work [9am-5pm] to do the cobwebs. The smaller spiders are all bought from places like Amazon and Poundland.
"We decorate downstairs. There are a few bits in the kitchen but mostly is in the lounge. The spider bathroom took me two hours. We get a huge amount of people to come and see the house. On Halloween night we have a few hundred to 500 trick-or-treaters queuing up our driveway. I couldn't say how much the whole design cost but I'm very thrifty and good at getting deals.
"My favourite part of the design is all the tiny black spiders that look like they are running towards you that really freak me. I stretched all the spider's legs out so they look like they're running and this is what made me feel sick. I think this is the best part because it's the freakiest. It's an arachnophobe's worst nightmare."
The mum-of-one says she has been decorating her home for the spooky celebrations since before Covid and this year she has created an arachnophobe's nightmare.
And after sharing videos of her haunted house on TikTok, other users were quick to point out her decorations also spooked people with trypophobia - the fear of small, irregular holes. Soon, Sally will take down the Halloween decorations and begin transforming her property into the 'Home Alone' house for Christmas.
Sally said: "I've been doing this since before Covid but it keeps getting bigger and bigger and the decorations keep growing. Last year we made a 14 foot pirate ship with animatronics.
"All my mates are just used to it now as I'm as mad as a hatter. I even decorate for Easter. Christmas will go up at the weekend after Halloween is finished. Everyone in the area calls it the Home Alone house. The reaction online is massive and it always is every year. We get loads of people drive by and loads of people visit and we have continuous people outside our house."
After posting a TikTok video of her Halloween decorations online, the video was viewed by over 600,000 people and received more than 40,000 likes. One user said: "The holes scare me more than the spiders."
Another added: "It looks amazing but my arachnophobia can't handle it."
A third commented: "This is incredible. I love when people make such an effort."
A fourth said: "Don't like spiders, but this is so cool."
