Kundapur: Mortal remains of missing 72-yr-old man found on river bank

Kundapur, Sep 21: The mortal remains of an old man who had gone missing was found with his head separated from the body in Gujjadi village's Kalihitlu on the banks of Panchagangavali river on Saturday, September 21.

The deceased man has been identified as Karunakara (72) from Guddamaadi village.

On September 19, Karunakara had left his daughter's home in Kenchanooru saying that he was going home in Guddammadi. He had finished supper and slept overnight but had gone missing the following morning.

It is believed that Karunakara had jumped into the river at the Bantwadi Bridge in Senapura village.

Search operations to find Karunakara was in progress on the entire Friday. However, his mortal remains were found without his head under mysterious circumstances raising doubts about the cause of his death.

It is believed that he had hanged himself near the bridge and jumped into the river resulting in such a condition.
Karunakara's dead body was shifted to Manipal KMC Hospital for a post-mortem examination. It is believed that he had left home a few years back. After living in Mumbai, Bengaluru and some places alike he had returned to his home town about five or six months back as per information available.

It remains to be ascertained whether Karunakara had ended his life or had been killed.

Police are investigating. A case has been registered in Gangolli police station.
