Udupi: Police instructs bus owners to install doors, CCTV for increased safety

Udupi, Sep 25: A meeting of private bus owners operating in the Udupi city area was held at the Malpe Circle Inspector’s office. The meeting saw the participation of various private bus owners and managers. Key directives were issued, requiring all private buses to mandatorily install doors by October 31, 2024.

It was also emphasized that under no circumstances should passengers be allowed to travel on footboards. Additionally, the removal of loud horns from buses was ordered, and strict instructions were given to drivers to refrain from using mobile phones while driving.

In the interest of passenger safety, it was recommended that CCTV cameras be installed in buses. Furthermore, bus drivers and conductors were instructed to behave respectfully with women and children, and all were reminded to strictly adhere to traffic regulations.

The meeting was attended by Udupi DySP D T Prabhu, probationary DySP Geeta Patil, assistant regional transport officer L P Naik, motor vehicle inspector Maruti Naik, Malpe circle inspector Manjunath M, and Udupi traffic police station PSI Sudarshan Doddamani.
