Petrol bomb incident in Derrinturn detailed by Kildare garda
One male was treated for non-life threatening injuries
by Ciarán Mather · Leinster LeaderA Kildare-based garda has described an incident in Derrinturn during which a petrol bomb was thrown into a home.
Garda Shane Smyth of Naas Garda Station discussed the incident when he appeared as a guest on KFM on the morning of Wednesday, September 25 last.
He explained that on Monday, September 23 last, at around 3.35am, one of the occupants of a house located in the Beech View region of Derrinturn 'woke up to a loud bang' and subsequently discovered smoke in his home.
Gda Smyth added that they subsequently fled with their family, and that a number of persons started smashing the home's windows.
He also said that one of the people causing damage to the home also threw a petrol bomb into the residence.
When asked by the Leinster Leader about the incident, a garda spokesperson responded: "Gardaí are investigating a criminal damage by fire incident which occurred in Derrintun, County Kildare on September 23, 2024.
"The incident occurred at approximately 3.25am."

The spokesperson continued: "The fire was brought under control by local fire services.
"One male was treated for non-life threatening injuries.
"No arrests have been made."
"Investigations [are] ongoing," they concluded.
