New sentence imposed on Kildare resident currently serving custodial sentence for drug-dealing offence

by Leader reporter · Leinster LeaderA new sentence has been imposed on a County Kildare resident currently serving sentence for a Section 15 (A) drug-dealing offence.
According to legislation, Section 15(A) of the Misuse of Drugs Act, 1977, relates to an accusation of drug-dealing.
Specifically, it relates to the alleged possession of drugs with value of €13,000 or more.
Klevist Shehaj, with an address listed as Damian O'Flynn House, Apartment 4, Eyre Street in Newbridge, is currently serving a custodial sentence for the offence.
As the 27-year-old is in custody, he appeared before Judge Desmond Zaidan at Naas District Court on Thursday, September 19 last via video-link.
Gardaí told Judge Zaidan that on November 8, 2021, Mr Shehaj was in possession of a false no-claims bonus at a property located in the Liffey Mill area of Athgarvan.

Judge Zaidan noted that this offence falls under Section 6 of the Criminal Justice (Theft and Fraud Offences Act), 2001.
The court was told that while he had no previous convictions prior to this offence, he had since accumulated two post convictions, one of which relates to the Section 15 (A) offence.
Defending barrister Aisling Murphy told the court that her client has been in custody since May of 2022, and is due for release in September of 2025.
She said that her client is doing well in prison, and has been studying while in custody.
Ms Murphy added that four references had been handed into the court.
She also said that Mr Shehaj 'has a job waiting for him upon his release.'
Judge Zaidan imposed a 12-month custodial sentence on Mr Shehaj, which will run in with Mr Shehaj's current sentence.
