Disqualification imposed on man who drove while drunk on St Patrick’s Day in North Kildare

A driving ban was imposed on a Maynooth man who drove while drunk on St Patrick’s Day.

The ban was imposed by Judge Desmond Zaidan while he presided over the case at Naas District Court on Thursday, October 10 last.

The judge was told that the offence was committed by one Colin Lennox, of 483A The Crescent, Straffan Road in Maynooth.

According to gardaí, the 44-year-old was caught driving while under the influence of alcohol at The Crescent on March 17, 2022, as well as driving without insurance.

Although Mr Lennox was not present in court during the proceedings, his defending solicitor, Brian Larkin, said that his client had indicated a guilty plea in relation to the offences.

A garda who was sworn in said that Mr Lennox came to their attention when he broke a red light. 

Mr Lennox subsequently failed a breath test.

"Did anyone have to take evasive action?" Judge Zaidan asked.

"No," the garda replied.

The court was told that Mr Lennox has six previous convictions, including one for failure to produce insurance.

For the drink-driving offence, Judge Zaidan imposed a €500 fine, which is to be paid within three months, on Mr Lennox, as well as imposing a two-year driving ban, with endorsement to follow.

The judge also imposed a further €500 fine, to be paid within three months in relation to the no insurance offence.
