Gardaí deployed a "stinger" device near Blessington earlier today to halt a stolen car which failed to stop for officers.
The theft of the vehicle took place in the Baltinglass area.
The stinger tyre deflation device was immediately placed on the N81 outside Blessington.
The device works by puncturing and gradually deflating one or more tyres of an oncoming vehicle, making it significantly more difficult for a motorist to continue driving.
Two teenagers were arrested and charged. They are due to appear in court later today.
Gardaí said:
"Gardaí responded to report of a theft of a vehicle in the Baltinglass area of Co. Wicklow in the early hours of yesterday morning, Saturday 14th December 2024.

"Shortly before 6am, a car failed to stop for Gardaí when directed to do so.

"A managed containment operation was put in place during which a stinger device was successfully deployed on the N81 at Burgage Moyle, and the car was brought to a halt.

"It was subsequently discovered that the car had been subject of an unauthorised taking.

"The car along with a number of items suspected of being stolen were recovered.

"Two males, one a juvenile in his teens, the other an adult in his late teens, were arrested at the scene and were detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at a Garda Station in Co. Wicklow.

"The have since been charged, and are expected to appear before a special sitting of Waterford District Court today, today, Sunday 15th December 2024, at approximately 1pm."
