Saturday Kitchen host Matt Tebbutt has spoken out after seemingly being 'replaced' on the BBC One staple which graces screens nationwide.

The usual scene was shaken up this Saturday (October 12), moments into the broadcast. Instead of Matt Tebbutt greeting the audience, it was Hollywood actor Stanley Tucci, known for his stellar performances in films such as The Devil Wears Prada, The Hunger Games, and The Lovely Bones, who showed up to tease the day's content.

Addressing the viewers, Stanley remarked: "Good morning. Do not adjust your sets, I'm taking over the show for one week only."

He followed up by quipping, "Now, here's hoping I can do the dramatic turn justice. And this is Saturday Kitchen live!" However, after the opening credits, Matt reclaimed his rightful place and quickly clarified the situation.

He then revealed: "Welcome to the show. I haven't been replaced completely. But our special guest today is well and truly in charge: Stanley Tucci!" earning a rousing round of applause from everyone in the studio, reports the Express.

The show included the culinary skills of chefs Georgina Hayden and Julius Roberts, with Helen McGinn sharing her drinks expertise.

All this occurred following an uncomfortable mishap last week involving plant-based cookbook author Mary McCartney. Matt, alongside his fellow chef, whipped up a mussel and tagliatelle delight in the kitchen. During the chatter about mussels' adaptability, Matt faced Mary with a question, seemingly oblivious to her dietary preferences.

"Mary, where do you stand on a mussel?" he enquired. "I don't eat them..." Mary started, visibly discomfited, before Matt chimed in hastily: "Being a vegetarian."

"I don't eat them," she repeated. An uncomfortable moment ensued as Matt acknowledged: "Right," and kept up with his cooking, while Mary underlined once more: "I don't eat them."

Saturday Kitchen airs every Saturday from 10am on BBC One.
