An ex-West Midlands Police trainee officer has been cleared of allegations of rape, sexual assault, stalking and sending malicious communication. George Mitchell faced nine charges in relation to five women.

The 21-year-old, from Solihull, was accused of intentionally causing distress by sending 'highly sexualised messages to two women he barely knew', as well as allegedly stalking one of them in his car for 15 minutes. He was also accused of sexually assaulting a third woman multiple times in his car and then his bed and raping a fourth woman after consensual intercourse was said to have become non-consensual.

The former student officer, who has since left the force, was also accused of sexually assaulting a fifth woman on two separate occasions at the Forum and PRYZM nightclubs in Birmingham. He denied all charges.

Following a trial at Birmingham Crown Court the jury yesterday, Monday, October 14, returned not guilty verdicts on one charge each of rape, stalking and sending an electronic communication with intent to cause distress or anxiety as well as six counts of sexual assault.
