Met Office issues long-range forecast for rest of October with warning for Brits

The Met Office has issued a long-range forecast for the remainder of October as it suggests the wet and windy weather is set to dominate

The Met Office has issued their long-range forecast as we head deeper into October. The past few days have seen many areas of the UK battered by relentless rain and blustery gales, resulting in a spell of unpredictable weather.

Yet it doesn't stop there - the Met Office warns that this pattern of wet and windy conditions is set to continue for the rest of the month. Recent times have brought severe flooding, transforming roads to rivers and isolating communities throughout the nation.

In a more dramatic twist, Tornado and Storm Research Organisation has sounded an alert for six regions across England and the Channel Islands, preparing Brits for the possibility of hail and lightning strikes as storm systems brew over the Atlantic.

The forewarning comes as the Met Office forecasts that from October 11 to October 20, the northern UK could see periods of rainfall, while the south might escape with drier spells, reports the Express.

Their prediction details: "A colder interlude across all areas of the UK as northerly winds push south bringing showers, these wintry across hills in the North."

Adding: "Perhaps a more organised spell of rain and stronger winds across Scotland especially as we head into the weekend, meanwhile southern areas are likely to see much drier conditions than of late with some sunshine by day. Temperatures below average, especially in the north with some overnight frost possible along with some patchy mist and fog."

"Later in the weekend likely to turn more unsettled once more with outbreaks of rain and some stronger winds expected to return to the northwest of the UK especially, although the southeast may well hang on to drier conditions throughout."

The Met Office's long-range forecast covering October 21 to November 4 suggests significant weather changes for the country.

It said: "A continuation of low pressure systems tracking in from the Atlantic is the most likely scenario for the rest of October. This means wet and windy weather at times, especially across England and Wales, but with a suggestion that Scotland and Northern Ireland may be more likely to see longer breaks in the weather, and more in the way of drier spells."

"It is possible that these drier conditions could be seen more widely later in the month as higher pressure further north extends southwards for a time. This would also bring an increased chance of overnight fog and frost. Temperatures will tend to be close to average overall in the south, but probably below average in the north and northwest."

Here is the West Midlands forecast for the next few days:

Monday

Any mist patches clearing to leave sunny spells. Often bright to start the afternoon but showers are possible, these heavy in places. Heavier rain may push northeast during the evening. Maximum temperature 17 °C.

Outlook for Tuesday to Thursday

Plenty of heavy and possibly thundery showers on Tuesday. Fewer showers on Wednesday with lengthier sunny spells in-between. Temperatures above average at first but turning drier and colder by Thursday.
