XL Bully fatal attack probe as police issue update into man's death
by Ben Perrin, https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/authors/ben-perrin/ · Birmingham LiveFour dogs - two confirmed as XL Bullies - remain in police kennels three months after a man was fatally mauled at a Birmingham home. Nicholas Glass, 32, was found dead in the garden of a relative’s home in Hereford Close, Rednal, in the early hours of Wednesday, August 21.
A post-mortem examination revealed he died of injuries consistent with having been bitten by a dog. Police said they believed four dogs were present around the time he was attacked.
Two of the dogs were seized and the other two were found two days later. Two were confirmed to have been XL Bullies, which is now a banned breed.

Neither XL Bully had a certificate of exemption. The force has now confirmed all four dogs remain in secure police kennels three months on from the tragedy.
A police spokesman told BirminghamLive: "The dogs remain in kennels and our investigation continues." No arrests have been made.
An inquest into Mr Glass's death was opened and adjourned at the start of September to obtain relevant evidence. A Birmingham and Solihull Coroner will carry out a full inquest on January 13, 2025.
Paying tribute, his family said previously: “In Nicholas we’ve lost a loving son, brother and uncle who was adored by all of his family and friends. He was kind hearted, caring and compassionate and he’d do anything for anyone. We are devastated at his loss and we all miss him desperately.”

Making up the Brumwish and Toys4Birmingham gang are Thrive Together Birmingham, Birmingham Playcare Network, Warwickshire Cricket Foundation (the charitable arm of Warwickshire County Cricket Club), Birmingham Forward Steps and BirminghamLive/Birmingham Mail.
