Arrest after man is stabbed in broad daylight on busy Midlands shopping street

Police are quizzing a 23-year-old man after a city centre stabbing which left a man in hospital

Police have arrested a man following a stabbing in Hanley town centre yesterday. Staffordshire Police were called to a 'disturbance' on Parliament Row just after 11.20am on Saturday, October 12.

Police cordoned off a section of the city centre - near KFC and Halifax - following the attack. A man was rushed to hospital with stab wounds, though his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

A 23-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent, possession of a knife in a public place and two drug offences. He remains in police custody as enquiries continue.

In a statement released yesterday, Staffordshire Police said: "We were called to a disturbance on Parliament Row just after 11.20am today (Saturday, October 12). Officers arrived a short time later.

"A man was taken to hospital for treatment. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. He remains in hospital at this time.

"A 23-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent, possession of a knife blade/pointed article in a public place, possession of a controlled drug of class A (heroin) and possession with intent to supply a controlled drug of class B (cannabis)."
