Bridge in central London closed after stabbing in front of horrified tourists

Scores of police officers rushed to Westminster Bridge in central London after a man was stabbed as tourists looked on. The bridge was closed on both sides following the horrifying incident just meters away from Big Ben.

The victim was rushed to hospital where is fighting for his life after the attack which promoted a huge police response. Three people have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, while a fourth has been arrested on suspicion of affray.

Police later said the stabbing was "an isolated incident" as they confirmed it was "not being treated as terrorism", MailOnline reports. It happened at around 10.45am on Sunday as London's usual tourists and sightseers filtered through the area. Police said they had been called to reports of a "fight".

Images taken from the scene showed the huge police response to Westminster Bridge. Officers were also seen bagging up belongings in clear plastic bags as they scoured the bridge for evidence.

Metropolitan Police said officers were called at 10:43am on Sunday, November 24, to reports of a fight on Westminster Bridge. The force added: "Officers, the London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance attended and found a man suffering from a stab injury.

"He has been taken to hospital in a critical condition. Three people have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and one person has been arrested on suspicion of affray. Two of them been taken to hospital for minor facial injuries. A road closure is in place. Inquiries continue."

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called today (Sunday) at 10.46am to reports of an incident on Westminster Bridge, SW1. We sent a number of resources including ambulance crews, an advanced paramedic, an incident response officer and London’s air ambulance.

One passer-by took to X posting: "Westminster Bridge closed in both directions. Hundreds of Police at the scene with the bridge cordoned off. What’s going on?"
