The emergency services found the seriously injured teenager at the junction of Frankley Beeches Road and A38 Bristol Road South, at around 12.50am.
He received advanced trauma care on the scene. Meanwhile, two youths are in police custody after they were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.
It has been nearly 10 hours since the incident unfolded by Sainsbury's in Northfield. Here is what we know so far about it.
What happened and where
At 12.50am on Monday, police and paramedics were called to the junction of Frankley Beeches Road and A38 Bristol Road South, where they found a 15-year-old boy with serious stab wounds.
He was taken to hospital with life threatening injuries, where he remains.

Two teenagers have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and remain in custody awaiting questioning
What have police said?
West Midlands Police said: "We have arrested two teenagers after a 15-year-old boy was stabbed in Northfield in the early hours of this morning. We were called to the junction of Frankley Beeches Road and A38 Bristol Road South, at around 12.50am.
"He was taken to hospital with life threatening injuries, where he remains. We arrested two teenage boys on suspicion of attempted murder.
"A cordon is in place on A38 between Frankley Beeches Road and Lockwood Road while we forensically examine the area. We are in the early stages of our investigation and our officers working hard to establish the full details on the incident.

What did West Midlands Ambulance Service say ?
A spokeswoman for the service said: "We were called shortly before 1am to reports of a stabbing on Frankley Beeches Road in Northfield. One ambulance, two paramedic officers and a MERIT trauma doctor and critical care paramedic attended the scene.
"Upon arrival we found a teenage male with life threatening injuries. He received advanced trauma care at the scene before being conveyed to hospital for further treatment.”
What is happening at the scene now ?
The city-bound section of the A38 Bristol Road is closed at Sainsbury's. Several evidence tents have been placed on the supermarket path and pavement.
Traffic is being diverted away and there was 'major congestion' in the area on Monday morning. Police have not said how long they expect the road to remain closed.
Traffic monitoring service Inirix said: "A38 Sir Herbert Austin Way Northbound closed, slow traffic due to police incident between Frankley Beeches Road (Black Horse Junction) and B4121 Bell Hill (The Isaac Tongue Junction)."
