£200 cost of living payments entering bank accounts in six days

Households in a West Midlands city are entitled to £200 cost of living payments from the local council. The money has been set aside the UK government to support residents with the cost of living via its Household Support Fund (HSF).

Residents in Birmingham can request the £200 payments - known as hardship grants - off Birmingham city council. The money can be used to help buy essentials such as food, water, household supplies and to spend towards energy bills.

The hardship grant requests opened in November and will applications will remain in place until March 31, 2025. In order to be eligible for a hardship grant, households must be permanent Birmingham residents, experiencing financial hardship - particularly with food and energy bills - and not received a previous £200 grant in the past 12 months.

A spokesperson for Birmingham City Council said: "Households facing financial hardship can apply for grants through the Hardship Grant Community Fund. These grants are given out by us, with help from the Birmingham Voluntary Service Council (BVSC) and local partner organisations.

"Hardship payments are intended to help households with everyday household essentials such as energy and food, with grant payments of up to £200 per household. Receiving a grant from this fund will not impact any other benefits you may be receiving or may be entitled to."
