Motorists have been warned not to leave their cars at a Birmingham raillway station car park as work is set to get underway later this month. Drivers who leave their car at Chester Road Station car park in Sutton Coldfield, face a £100 fine.

The charge will be given to anyone that leaves a vehicle at the 164-space car park, accessed via Green Lanes, over a 12-day period when maintenance work is set to take place. Drivers will also be charged if they leave their car there overnight the day before the work starts.

Transport for West Midlands issued the alert ahead of resurfacing work at the car park from Monday, October 21 to Friday, November 1. The second week of the scheme covers the school half-term in Birmingham.

A spokesperson for Transport for West Midlands posted an alert on the travel organisation’s website and said: “Our park and ride sites are busy. We want to make sure they’re in good condition.

“We’ll sometimes need to do maintenance and improvement work. This includes things like adding more spaces or resurfacing. From Monday 21 October 2024 until Friday 1 November 2024 inclusive, Chester Road Station car park will be closed for resurfacing work.

“Customers should not park in the station overnight on Sunday, October 20. Vehicles in the car park during the closure period will receive a £100 PCN to cover cost of removing the vehicle.

“The nearest alternative station parking is at Sutton Coldfield station, postcode B73 6AQ. We’re sorry for any inconvenience this work might cause.”
