It happened on the A5 in Tamworth after the Yamaha bike had collided with a white Mercedes on the eastbound carriageway. Debris from the first collision hit the Vauxhall, which was travelling in the opposite direction, before the fatal crash, which happened at around 7.15pm on Wednesday, November 7.

The biker died at the scene and a woman in her 50s, who was driving the Vauxhall, was rushed to hospital with serious injuries.

The lorry driver stayed at the scene and was helping officers with the investigation. Staffordshire Police appealed for information.

A spokesperson for the force said: "We are appealing for information after a man sadly died and a woman was seriously injured following a series of collisions on the A5 in Tamworth.

"We were called at about 7.15pm when a collision happened between a blue Yamaha motorbike and a white Mercedes car on the eastbound carriageway, between Ventura and Marlborough Way. Damage was caused to both vehicles. Debris from that collision hit a white Vauxhall Adam, travelling westbound.

"A white Scania HGV was then involved in a collision with the stationary Vauxhall and the rider of the motorbike, who was on foot at the time. Sadly, the rider of motorbike, a man in his 20s, suffered serious injuries and died at the scene.

"His family are being supported by specially-trained officers at this traumatic time. The driver of the Vauxhall, a woman in her 50s, suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital.

"The driver of the HGV stayed at the scene and is assisting police with the investigation." They added: "We’re keen to speak to anyone who saw what happened on either carriageway or those with CCTV or dashcam of the area at the time. Call 101, quoting incident 611 of 6 November, or email collision investigators directly using ciu@staffordshire.police.uk."

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "Crews found a lorry and two pedestrians had been involved in a collision. A man was receiving basic life support and ambulance crews immediately took over to administer advanced life support.

"Sadly, it quickly became clear that he could not be saved and was confirmed deceased at the scene. A woman was treated by medics for serious, but not life-threatening, injuries and conveyed to Queen Elizabeth Hospital."
