Dan also offers advice for those considering second-hand heated clothes airers. He said: "While buying second-hand electrical appliances can be cost-effective, it may not always be safe. Reconditioned or second-hand heated airers and covers often lack a manufacturer's guarantee and could pose a risk of fire or electrical shock if it is faulty."

He also warned: "If you do decide to purchase second-hand, then the appliance should be PAT tested to check its electrical safety."
