Strictly Come Dancing professional dancer Amy Dowden was overcome with emotion on Sunday night's results show

Strictly's Amy Dowden had a profoundly emotional return to the dance floor as she celebrated an important milestone on the BBC hit show.

Following her courageous cancer battle, the cherished professional dancer made a triumphant comeback in the race for the glitterball triumph. Claudia Winkleman acknowledged this pivotal occasion, saying, "On a personal level, this weekend is quite a big deal for you."

Amy replied: "Yeah, so last year Movie Weekend was my first appearance on Strictly during my cancer journey when I got to do the terms and conditions."

The moment proved overwhelming for the Welsh star as she held back tears, stating, "A year later I'm here dancing with my Strictly family. Yeah, so it was quite... erm."

As she valiantly tried to compose herself, the audience responded with heartfelt applause to celebrate her bravery and tenacity. Claudia praised her warmly, commenting, "Very beautifully said, thank you! " while a round of standing ovation followed from Amy's co-stars, and her partner JB Gill offered a comforting embrace, reports the Mirror.

At 34, Amy also commemorated this significant event across her social media platforms by posting a throwback picture from last year's movie week alongside a recent photo taken from the same themed episode this year. She reflected, "A year ago was my first appearance on strictly 2023 during my cancer treatment where I did terms and conditions for movie week and the first time braving it going bald to the nation,' she explained."

"I remember that day so well, so excited to be there yet so far away from that dance floor. A year ago it was a pure imagination to be dancing. I remember the show finishing and breaking down in tears because I was so overwhelmed and so missing that feeling on the floor. Last night was a pure dream dancing and watching everyone with their brilliant movie week routines," Amy graciously recalled.

She then proceeded to heap praises on JB for being the "'ultimate gentleman" and making her comeback all the more memorable. "But also sharing the experience with @jbgill who is just the ultimate gentleman, caring, calm, hardworking, super talented and so understanding knowing how every week is such a special milestone for me this year. Thank you partner," Amy penned.
