Birmingham parents stun family with unique baby name - and some relatives won't use it

Ronni Lily, 28, and partner Brad, 31, named their son Lucifer - and are determined to make sure he shines during his first Halloween

A Birmingham mum-of-four loves Halloween so much she called her baby son Lucifer. Ronni Lily, 28, and her partner Brad were inspired by a US TV show of the same name and said they were not religious so the devilish name had no "dangerous connotations" for them.

Ronni, from Birmingham, admitted some friends and relatives had been shocked by their unique choice and some members of her family had refused to use it. But she said she had no regrets.

She said: "I make sure the house is fully decorated inside and out. I can't wait to make my little devil's first Halloween one to remember. I'm going to dress him up in red with tails, horns, and a pitchfork, of course," reports the Daily Record.

"I can already imagine the look on the other mum's faces when I tell them his real name. Lucifer hasn't started nursery yet but I have no doubt his name will raise a few eyebrows when I do register him. But I'm sure nursery workers have heard far worse."

The name Lucifer, meaning 'bearer of light' or 'Morning Star', has sparked controversy due to its association with the devil, and is even banned in some countries. Although it's not illegal in the UK, it has ignited debate about its suitability as a baby name, with some parents labelling Ronni "cruel" for choosing it, suggesting it may lead to bullying.

But Ronni and Brad said the name was perfect for their son, who was born in January 2024. She said: "We both loved his name from the start and still do. I'm not concerned his name will cause him problems at school or later in life, but he has a common middle name, Ashley, he can use if he ever wants or needs to."

Lucifer has three older siblings: Lola, six, Lincoln, four, and Lilac, three, who will all join in the Halloween festivities, with a preference for "the gorier the better" costumes.

Ronni said: "We will have a Halloween party at home and I will take the kids out trick or treating. All my kids love Halloween and Brad and I love to watch horror movies. I also love documentaries on paranormal investigations or strange activity. Halloween is one of my favourite times of the year.

"He is so close to walking, and I know that's when the trouble starts. He may have a devilish personality during the toddler or teenage years, but there is nothing negative about his name. He is our Lucifer the Legend."
