Man arrested after car crashes into lamppost near Perry Barr's One Stop Shopping Centre

A man was arrested on suspicion of driving without care after a car smashed into a lamppost near a city shopping centre. It happened opposite Perry Barr's One Stop Shopping Centre at around 11am today, Thursday, October 3.

A video shared online showed a fire engine and police at the scene. A man, in his 30s, was held on suspicion of driving without due care and attention following the incident.

Paramedics who attended the scene said no patients required treatment. The ambulance service stood down shortly after arriving.

A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: "We were called to Walsall Road, Perry Barry, shortly before 11am today after a car hit a lamppost. Officers attended and a man in his 30s was arrested on suspicion of driving without due care and attention.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesperson added: "We were called to reports of a single vehicle collision on Walsall Road at 10.52am. One ambulance attended the scene however, on arrival it quickly became apparent there were no patients requiring treatment and we were stood down."
