Moment teen killer pulls out huge knife in Birmingham's Victoria Square as kid plays nearby

by · Birmingham Live

This is the horrifying moment two masked and hooded youths confront an innocent teenager in Birmingham city centre before he is stabbed to death. CCTV footage captures the tragic altercation as Muhammad Ali sits next to his pal in Victoria Square.

The video shows a small child playing nearby as two 15-year-olds wrongly confront Muhammad, 17, and his friend, who they believe were responsible an earlier attack on one of their friends. One of the boys later produces a large knife.

Tragically, he uses it to stab budding engineer Muhammad in the chest before the pair flee. The victim was rushed to Birmingham's Queen Elizabeth Hospital on January 20, but the damage to his heart was too severe and Muhammad was later pronounced dead.

Footage also showed Muhammad, 17, and a friend being followed by the offenders who were preparing to confront them. The fatal attack happened when Muhammad and his friend sat next to the Floozie in the Jacuzzi.

One of the 15-year-old boys, who can’t be named for legal reasons, was convicted of murder and possession of a knife earlier this year. He was ordered to be detained for at least 13 years. The other teen was convicted of manslaughter and possession of a bladed article and was jailed for five years following a sentencing hearing at Birmingham Crown Court today, Friday, November 1.

In a statement today, Muhammad’s family said: “We as a family still can’t even bear to think about how he died, even writing the word murdered destroys a little bit of us again.

“The loss of Muhammad, or any child, is devastating and life destroying but the fact that someone has so brutally taken his life in such a horrific way will always haunt us. It’s so difficult to express how his death has affected our family’s lives. His teachers told us how clever he was and the kindness he showed in helping others.

"The students told us how friendly and chatty he was to be around and they told us how they will miss him. He dreamt of becoming an engineer and his passion was to work hard to achieve his goal. This dream will no longer come true, not for wanting to work hard but at the hands of another."
