Driver of £50k Range Rover flagged down on M6 was 'twice drink-drive limit'

The driver is alleged to have been drinking before getting behind the wheel - he has since been charged and is due to appear before the courts

An alleged Range Rover drink-driver was flagged down by police after being seen “all over” the M6. Officers spotted the car on the major stretch north to Stafford.

Staffordshire Police’s Road Crime Team said the motorists was stopped and arrested after he blew into a breathalyser. He was said by officers to have “blown 66”.

The legal alcohol limit for driving in England, Wales and Northern Ireland is 35 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath. That means the man allegedly blew more than twice the drink drive limit.

The driver has since been charged and was due to appear in court Saturday morning, October 12. A photograph showed the red Range Rover Evoque, which appears to be a 2017 model.

When the vehicle was manufactured, its retail price would likely have ranged from around £30,000 to £50,000.

“This vehicle was spotted by officers all over the M6 North through the M6 North through Stafford,” officers wrote on X.

“[The] driver was found to be almost two times the drink drive limit. Driver blew 66 evidentially and will be charged to court in the morning.”

Operation Lightning is Staffordshire Police’s dedicated operation focusing on road safety. The force says it aims to reduce road deaths and disrupt criminals using the road network.
