Police make second arrest after Birmingham street shooting

A 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender after the violent disorder at the junction of Witton Road and Endicott Road in Aston

West Midlands Police has made a second arrest after probing a shooting in Birmingham. It follows a gun being fired during disorder in Aston.

A 19-year-old man was arrested in the early hours of today, Monday, October 14, following the incident at the junction of Witton Road and Endicott Road, just after 7.45pm, on Saturday, October 12. The teen was held on suspicion of assisting an offender.

A 21-year-old also remains under arrest on suspicion of violent disorder. Police said he had presented in hospital with stab wounds, which are not thought to be life-threatening. High visibility police patrols are being made in the area to offer reassurance to the public as inquiries continue.

Sharing an update, police said: "We've arrested a second man as investigations continue after a gun was fired during disorder in Aston. The 19-year-old was arrested in the early hours of today (Monday) following the incident at the junction of Witton Road and Endicott Road, just after 7.45pm on Saturday.

"He remains in police custody this afternoon on suspicion of assisting an offender. A 21-year-old also remains under arrest on suspicion of violent disorder. We know such incidents can be concerning and our teams are carrying out high visibility patrols in the area to offer reassurance as enquiries continue.

"CCTV is being retrieved and reviewed as we work to identify everyone who was involved and we'd ask anyone we've not yet spoken but believes they can help to come forward.
